Miranda Soucie doesn’t believe in wasting time. At only 30 years old, she is already a partner at her law firm, Spiros Law, P.C. in Danville, Illinois. And in just five years of practicing law, Soucie has already tackled several jury trials, worked on four appeals and mediated/arbitrated dozens of cases.

Soucie is not just busy, she is successful, too. This young attorney has already earned several six-figure settlements for her clients, and, at the time of this writing, was on the verge of concluding a case that will result in a settlement of nearly $2 million for one of her clients.

With this record of success at such an early age, it’s little wonder that Soucie has already built a deep roster of repeat clients. And it is equally as unsurprising that Soucie has plenty of fans in the legal community.

“Miranda is one of the unfortunately few litigators who is actually willing and able to take a case all the way through the trial process,” said Angelica Wawrzynek with Mattoon, Illinois- based law firm Tapella & Eberspacher LLC. “Despite her young age, she has even served as lead counsel on several jury trials. What’s more, she will gladly take a case to trial, rejecting offers to settle that undervalue her clients’ claims, regardless of whether the case is worth five, six or seven figures.”

Glenn Stanko, with Champaign, Illinois’ Rawles, O’Byrne, Stanko, Kepley & Jefferson, P.C., says that he saw firsthand in the fall of 2013 just how effective Soucie can be in the courtroom. Back then, Soucie was arguing an appeal in a premises liability case before the Fourth District Appellate Court at the University of Illinois College of Law.

Stanko said that about 100 law students gathered to watch the appeal play out. But Soucie, despite her young age, did not falter. “She was prepared, poised and effective,” Stanko said. “Her opponent was a very experienced and able defense attorney, but Miranda skillfully presented her arguments and rebutted his arguments.”

The result? The Appellate Court unanimously reversed the trial court’s order granting the defendant’s motion to dismiss the complaint.

Stanko, though impressed, says that such results don’t surprise him.

“Miranda is very intelligent, has a wealth of knowledge about the law and is an excellent communicator,” Stanko said. “She also cares deeply about her clients, is passionate about her work and maintains the highest ethical standards.”

Her peers say that Soucie works well, too, with others in the legal field. One fellow attorney praised Soucie for her skills in negotiating and working with the most difficult of attorneys.

The respect she shows for other lawyers, and for opposing counsel, is just one more example of the respect Soucie has for the law and her industry, say her peers.

“I have never known her to disrespect other attorneys or their clients,” said Macie Fletcher with Champaign, Illinois’ Harrington & Tock LLC. “Every mutual colleague I know has only ever had the utmost praise for her lawyering skills and for her as an individual.”

Soucie, despite a busy career, has not been shy about donating her time to her industry. She is the president of the East Central Illinois Women Attorneys Association and has also served on ISBA and ITLA committees. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law where she teaches Trial Skills to the Competitive Trial Team.
