Word count could replace 50-page limit

Word counts or page counts? The state’s top court could soon delve into that question.An Illinois Supreme Court committee heard testimony this week on a change that would strike the 50-page limit for Illinois Appellate Court briefs in favor of a 14,000-word limit.Supporters say it amounts to the same length but would encourage more legible fonts and formatting, make digital reading easier and align state court rules with those of the federal system, which reminds lawyers that making briefs “typographically superior” can …
