Martin Luther King Jr. penned his Letter from Birmingham Jail while incarcerated in Alabama for protesting against segregation. 1990 The “doctor of death,” Jack Kevorkian, participated in his first of at least 130 assisted suicides. In 1999, Kevorkian was convicted of second-degree murder and served eight years in prison. He was known for saying, “Dying is not a crime.”
