Cyclist hit by truck to get record $9.75M

A trucking company has agreed to pay $9.75 million to settle a case brought by a 49-year-old Near North Side woman injured after a truck hit her while she was riding her bicycle. According to the Jury Verdict Reporter, the settlement — secured by Timothy J. Cavanagh and Benjeman L. Nichols of Cavanagh Law Group — is an Illinois record for a verdict or settlement involving a vehicular collision with a bicycle.
