Court: Zoning board missed target on gun range

A state appeals panel has ruled that a long-standing gun shop in Lincolnwood may open a shooting range under the village’s zoning ordinances without a special-use permit. In an eight-page opinion written by 1st District Appellate Court Justice Thomas E. Hoffman, the panel ruled that shooting is a sport, therefore allowing the range to exist under Lincolnwood’s rules for health clubs or recreational facilities.
