A rehab center in south suburban Blue Island is not required to comply with a city code provision mandating the installation of sprinkler systems, a federal judge has ruled.
In a written opinion, U.S. District Judge Robert M. Dow Jr. held that regulations drafted by the Illinois Department of Human Services pre-empt the Life Safety Code adopted by Blue Island.
And state regulations do not require buildings that are not high-rises to have automatic sprinklers, Dow wrote.
