1874 Joseph F. Glidden received a patent for barbed wire. He created it by using a coffee mill to create the barbs. A legal battle ensued over whether he actually was the inventor. Glidden prevailed and started a successful barbed wire company in DeKalb. At the time of his death in 1906, Glidden was one of the richest men in America. 1947 The “Hollywood 10” were cited for contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions about alleged communist influence in the movie-making business.
