$43M verdict awarded in abuse case

A St. Clair County jury has awarded a $43 million verdict to a young girl who was physically and sexually abused by a day care worker defendant who did not participate in the trial. The jurors awarded the verdict Monday against Charles Carrico, 73, who is imprisoned. Carrico chose not to answer the complaint and did not have an attorney appear for him in the case. Since Carrico defaulted, the plaintiff attorney only needed to prove damages to the jury. The girl, now 9, was identified in the lawsuit complaint …
