Stuart Paul Katz is old enough to remember when the words “openly gay” and “legal professional” did not go together.
“I remember when I was younger, there was a state’s attorney who I knew was gay, and he was totally in the closet in the office because he thought that would hurt his chances for promotion,” said Katz, a Cook County associate judge.
“That doesn’t happen at all anymore.”
