Ruling on an issue that few courts have addressed, a federal judge has rejected a debt collector’s narrow reading of a provision of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In a written opinion, U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly held that the term “brings any legal action on a debt” includes more than just filing a lawsuit.
