Lawyer, 96, disbarred for charging trust too much

The Illinois Supreme Court has disbarred a 96-year-old lawyer accused of taking an excessive amount of attorney fees from a trust for which he acted as both trustee and attorney. An Attorney Registration & Discipline Commission Review Board panel recommended that Joseph C. Owens of Glen Ellyn be disbarred and pay $65,100 in restitution to the trust. The justices also ordered Owens to pay the $65,100 in restitution. M.R. 27117. It’s unclear whether Owens is the oldest attorney ever sanctioned in the state. …
