The licensing section of the 1937 Illinois Insurance Code referred separately to "brokers," who work for insureds, and "agents," who represent insurers. Now, following the modern trend, the Insurance Code lumps brokers and agents together by using the term "insurance producer" to refer to "a person required to be licensed under the laws of this state to sell, solicit or negotiate insurance." 215 ILCS 5/500-10.Section 2-2201 of the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure also uses the term …
