Estate gets $1M for hip fracture at nursing home

A Cook County jury has awarded more than $1 million to the estate of an elderly woman who suffered a hip fracture and a months-long infection during her stay in a northwest suburban nursing home.The verdict came April 27 in plaintiff Valerie Lytle’s negligence case, which alleged that Alden Poplar Creek Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center’s failure to provide mobility assistance to her mother Linda Zahn caused her to suffer the fracture in April 2010, and its negligent care after her resulting surgery caused …
