Lawmakers’ intent focus of special hearing

SPRINGFIELD — To decide which case to present for lawmakers who attended a special evening of Supreme Court oral arguments, the state’s chief justice on Tuesday said she and her colleagues looked to do several things.They wanted a case that was “representative” of their docket, which Chief Justice Rita B. Garman said is made up of about half criminal and half civil cases.They wanted one that showed public lawyers in action.And they wanted a case that tried to discern the legislature’s intent …
