1831Former slave Nat Turner lead an uprising against slavery. The revolt started at the Belmont Plantation in Loudoun County in Virginia killed anywhere from 55 to 65 people, the highest number of fatalities caused by any slave uprising in the American South. The rebellion was stopped within a few days, but Turner survived by hiding for more than two months afterward. He was tried and hanged.
