Dear Snap-D: Many of my clients have social media presences. Do I follow them? By following their companies, my name will be displayed as a follower and I’m not sure how other clients will feel about me following their competitors.

A: Yes! It is your job to follow your clients’ businesses — and with social media today, it’s a simple task. Most if not all companies have multiple social media pages to which they post. It may be the fastest way for you to find out about client happenings, and it will give you a legitimate excuse to call your client about their company news. Follow away!

Q: I am experiencing a dry spell. I am a white-collar crime lawyer and was on a busy streak for years. During that time, I was still active and networking. For the past year, business has slowed and I am starting to get nervous. Thoughts?

A: Being nervous won’t get you too far! Pick up the phone, set up meetings with referral sources and get on some speaking panels to get your name and services out there. I’m assuming you did great work for previous clients.

Reach out to those clients and see how they’re doing. They’ll appreciate the gesture and keep you in mind regarding friends who may need your help.

Q: We’ve been approached by a company that is promoting infographics to be placed on our website. Are infographics confusing or clear for site visitors? If we decide to use one graphic, do we need to use it across the entire site?

A: I love infographics! If done correctly, they are clear as day and allow you to communicate complicated information in a simple format. Infographics are best used sporadically. I would not suggest converting all your content to infographics, as this could cross the “obnoxious” line. Stick to infographics to communicate a lot of information in a simple format. You will love it and your readers will, too.
