High court to hear wrongful-death suit

The Illinois Supreme Court today said it will hear a medical-malpractice lawsuit in which the plaintiff’s estate was allowed to add new wrongful-death claims even after the statute of repose expired.The 1st District Appellate Court’s decision in Sheri Lawler v. The University of Chicago Medical Center, et al., 2016 IL App (1st) 143189, is a case of first impression, as it applied the relation-back doctrine to a wrongful-death claim and a medical-malpractice lawsuit.The defendants in the case — which …
