Appellate court revives asbestos death litigation

A state appeals panel on Tuesday revived the mesothelioma lawsuit filed by a now-deceased Alabama drywall finisher who briefly worked in Illinois during the 1960s.The 1st District Appellate Court ordered a new trial in the lawsuit spearheaded by the estate of Ronnie A. Startley, who worked in Illinois for three to four months in 1965 using joint compounds that contained asbestos.Startley allegedly used Wel-Cote, a joint compound by Welco Manufacturing Co. in North Kansas City, Mo. during that period in Illinois.
