Bail-reform bill dovetails with court reforms

The bail-reform legislation signed into law by Gov. Bruce Rauner on Friday complements the overhaul the Illinois court system has been making to its pretrial services and detention practices on its own.Senate Bill 2034 allows the state Supreme Court to develop a risk assessment tool to determine whether someone should be released prior to his or her trial.A number of jurisdictions in Illinois are already using risk assessment tools, according to Mike Tardy, the director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts …
