Senate committee funds LSC, defying White House

The Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday voted to keep funding for the Legal Services Corp. static, a sharp rebuke to its House counterpart and the Trump administration, which has sought to cut or close the agency.Under the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill the committee passed on Thursday, the agency would continue to be funded at $385 million for fiscal year 2018.“That’s a strong statement of support for what we do,” LSC President James Sandman said in an interview. “I think …
