$7.8M verdict stands in death of woman injected with anesthetic

A divided state appeals panel on Friday upheld a $7.8 million wrongful-death verdict for the estate of a woman who was paralyzed after her doctor tried to inject local anesthetic into her abdomen as part of a medical procedure.The 1st District Appellate Court justices agreed that Cook County Circuit Judge Clare Elizabeth McWilliams committed a number of errors during the jury trial over Kathy Arient’s lawsuit against her doctor, Yasser Alhaj-Hussein.But the justices split over whether the errors were serious enough …
