Equal Rights Amendment push takes step further, but still long way to go

Illinois is a step closer to approving new language for the U.S. Constitution that says rights can’t be abridged “on account of sex.”State senators this week easily passed a measure calling for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, an attempt to fortify women’s legal standing that fizzled out decades ago.The proposal, Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 4, now just needs 71 votes in the House to be approved. If that happens, Illinois would be the 37th of the 38 states required …
