Michael Sorich
Cavanagh Law Group
Personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death

The list of Michael Sorich’s recent successes is an impressive one, and includes several multi-million-dollar verdicts for his clients.

But to those who know this young personal-injury attorney with Chicago’s Cavanagh Law Group, Sorich’s legal victories are hardly surprising.

That’s because Sorich possesses the perfect combination of legal smarts, tenacity, dedication to his clients and work ethic.

“We learned early that Mike Sorich was a person who could be trusted with the most complex matters that demanded great attention to detail, deep expertise, extreme competence and a strong work ethic,” said Daniel Kirk with ComEd. “His resume is impressive, and his future holds limitless potential.”

In just one year with Cavanagh Law Group, Sorich obtained more than $14 million on behalf of his clients. Some of these successes include a $7.5 million pedestrian-railroad crossing settlement, $2.5 million uninsured motorist settlement, $1.3 million wrongful death automobile settlement and $1 million wrongful death fire settlement.

Sorich has also earned a $1 million underinsured motorist settlement and an $850,000 settlement for an injured airline passenger.

A judge with the 5th District Courthouse, said that Sorich earned those legal victories through hard work and legal talent.

“His philosophy is based on integrity and hard work,” the judge said. “He values fighting for justice on behalf of those who have been harmed, holding the wrongdoers accountable. He has a wealth of courtroom experience, having tried more than 50 jury trials and hundreds of matters in federal and state court.”

Sorich’s peers, though, say that this attorney is more than just an outstanding trial lawyer. Before moving to Cavanagh Law Group, Sorich was a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney. His career there culminated with him being named supervisor of the Civil Actions Bureau in the Torts and Civil Rights Division.

Former Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez said this about Sorich, “I promoted Michael to Supervisor of Torts and Civil Rights because I knew he had the ability to manage a heavy work load and to successfully handle complex matters. Many trials are done in that unit and only the best civil litigators can handle it. The unit was not fully staffed, yet the job always got done and done successfully! I never doubted his ability and he was very successful in that role. He is hard working, tenacious and full of integrity.”

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart mentioned how Michael, responsible for defending Cook County and its approximately 22,000 employees in Torts and Civil Rights lawsuits in both State and Federal courts saw Sorcih’s work on the case Quinones v. Kaloudis, 09 C 240: Sorich Successfully defended officers at the Cook County Jail of allegations of excessive force. Plaintiff demanded over $500,000 before the jury returned a verdict in favor of all defendants

“Trying more than 50 jury trials before the age of 40is just staggering,” said Matthew Kramer, counsel for Jimmy John’s Sandwiches. “But ‘trial attorney’ is too narrow a definition of Mike’s career. His tenure as a prosecutor gave Mike a wide range of experiences, and his clients in private practice will be the beneficiaries.”

Sorich’s trial work keeps him busy. But this attorney is also active in his community and profession. He is actively involved with the American Association for Justice, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and Illinois State Bar Association. He also serves on the Chicago Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluation Committee and Young Lawyers Tort Litigation Committee.

“As an already valued and proven member of our profession, I fully expect to see Mike’s involvement and leadership grow and shine in years to come,” Kirk said.
