Gerald P. Meyer
MoloLamken LLP
Commercial litigation, white-collar crime

What makes an attorney stand out? Results, certainly. The most talented attorneys earn their clients the best verdicts and settlements. Then there's the hard work that goes on before cases reach trial or go to settlement. That work is often the key to a successful verdict.

Gerald Meyer understands this. It's why he spends so much time prepping for his cases. This white-collar specialist with Chicago's MoloLamken doesn't shy away from the hard work that goes into researching case law and preparing witnesses. It's why Meyer boasts such an enviable record and such a long list of dedicated clients.

Theodore Poulos, with the Chicago law firm of Cotsirilos, Tighe, Streicker, Poulos & Campbell, has had an up-close look at Meyer's talents. He was co-counsel with Meyer and his partner, Steve Molo, in a complex criminal healthcare fraud jury trial in federal court in Chicago.

Poulos has nothing but praise for Meyer.

"He did an outstanding job," Poulos said. "He was on top of every legal and factual issue in the case and was a tireless worker, always the first one in the office and the last one to leave at night."

The case was tried during six weeks in 2016. The trial involved dozens of witnesses and hundreds of documents, giving Meyer plenty of which to keep track. Meyer also cross-examined eight of the government's witnesses.

And through it all? Meyer shone.

"Gerald managed it all with aplomb," Poulos said. "His questions were sharp and he had a friendly confidence that clearly connected with the jury. This was a serious matter, and Gerald performed at a level you would expect of a much more senior lawyer. I was greatly impressed."

This is just one example of Meyer's courtroom skills. Meyer focuses his practice on white-collar criminal matters and investigations, complex business litigation and appellate litigation. He has tried cases in the Northern District of Illinois and the Circuit Court of Cook County, has briefed and argued appeals before the Seventh and Federal Circuits and has done the same before the Northern District of Illinois and Southern District of New York. He has also briefed cases before the Supreme Court of the United States.

During his career, Meyer has worked on several big-name cases. This includes representing a medical professional who was under indictment for conspiracy and receipt of kickbacks in a jury trial. He also represented a large media company in litigation focusing on issues of executive compensation, breaches of fiduciary duties and fraud.

Meyer represented a small business owner in connection with investigations by the U.S. Attorney's Office and United States Department of Homeland Security and provided representation to a large telecommunications company in a patent appeal to the U.S Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Despite his busy caseload, Meyer coordinates MoloLamken's pro bono efforts. Last year, under Meyer's leadership, the firm devoted over 4,400 hours to pro bono work and was awarded the Seventh Circuit Bar Association’s John Paul Stevens Pro Bono and Public Service Award and recognized at the Bar Association’s annual dinner.
