Lyndsay Markley Law
Personal injury
40 Under Class – 2018

Lyndsay Markley is a trial lawyer and the principal of Lyndsay Markley Law. To date, Markley has obtained substantial compensation for her clients in all areas of personal injury and wrongful death litigation and tried numerous cases to jury verdict. In the past four years alone, Markley has secured tens of millions of dollars on behalf of her clients.

Before starting Lyndsay Markley Law in 2014, Markley served as a named shareholder at a Chicago law firm and, notably, was the law firm’s youngest and first female partner in its 60-year history. Currently, a great deal of Markley’s practice is dedicated to representing victims of sexual and physical abuse in civil lawsuits.

The seed of Markley’s dedication to empowering victims through the civil justice system was sown early in life. Before her birth, her maternal grandfather was rendered a quadriplegic by a dangerously designed piece of equipment. No lawsuit was brought, and the family struggled for years to make ends meet after the effective loss of the family’s sole financial supporter. Medical care that may have changed his circumstances was not a financial option. Seeing the physical, emotional, and financial struggle this injury caused to her grandfather and the family, Markley committed herself to becoming an attorney for other injured persons.

Her passion for victims’ rights is evident in multiple nominators’ descriptions of Markley as “fearless” and a “trail blazer”. Another theme in Markley’s Forty Under Forty nominations was her professionalism, “Not once throughout the course of our case together did I see her behave in anything other than a professional manner. She is very likeable while being able to get results and not give in and push forward. This is a unique quality that not all attorneys possess, especially younger attorneys.”

Markley is licensed to practice in Illinois and was designated as a Trial Attorney to the Trial Bar of the Federal Court of the Northern District of Illinois by the time she was 27 years old. She has tried cases to jury verdict in nine Illinois counties, in the Federal Court for the N.D. of Illinois and in a number of states via pro hac vici.

Giving back to her community is important to Markley, so she is as active outside the courtroom as inside. She is a member of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois where she has served on a number of committees and acted as a mentor to new attorneys. Since 2008, she has served as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Women's Bar Foundation of Illinois, the charitable arm of the WBAI. She is also a member of The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, The National Trial Lawyers Association, The Illinois State Bar Association, and The Chicago Bar Association. Markley also provided tutoring to Chicago-area elementary school students for several years through the “Lawyers in the Classroom Program.”
