Adam Guetzow
Hinshaw Culbertson
Healthcare—Long-Term Care and Aging Services (Litigation and Risk Management)

Adam Guetzow, a partner with Chicago's Hinshaw Culbertson, has already built a litigation history that would be the envy of the most veteran of lawyers

This healthcare and long-term care attorney has successfully tried and arbitrated cases in Illinois, New York, Virginia and California. He's also presented arguments before each U.S. District Court in Illinois and has appeared before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Guetzow's litigation successes have helped him build a large and loyal client base. His clients understand that should their cases reach litigation or administrative hearing, Guetzow will defend them vigorously, and will work tirelessly to achieve the best results.

Alexis Costello is a good example. This senior claim examiner at Schaumburg, Illinois-based Assurance TPA Services, met Guetzow about five years ago. He was holding a conference for long-term care industry professionals focusing on the Illinois Authorized Electronic Monitoring Act. This was an important issue. The act had created questions and concerns among clients. But Guetzow calmly and clearly explained the act and its possible consequences. Costello was so impressed, she asked Guetzow to consult with several of Assurance's clients.

And since then? Costello has turned to Guetzow whenever her clients face complicated legal matters.

"Adam has been my go-to for all new or complex legal changes effecting the long-term care industry," Costello said.

Costello pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of Guetzow's talents. When the pandemic hit, it created an immediate threat to nursing homes across the country. Guetzow, Costello said, was at the cutting edge of understanding the challenges and how to best overcome them.

"While everyone else was reeling from the realities of the pandemic, Adam was already planning his defensive strategy, which included documentation guidance we were able to provide to all of our clients," Costello said.

Kevin McGee, CEO of Smith Senior Living, similarly explained that during the pandemic ‘His depth and knowledge of the law and regulations kept us on the straight path in terms of our residents and staff.  Adam was also instrumental in articulating the impact of the guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health as to how it impacts the residents and services rendered in social distancing and communicating with their family members.”

Another client explained “Adam’s energy and passion for representing his clients comes through from the first time you meet Adam. He is dedicated not only to the outcomes of cases but the educational growth of his clients to see them succeed in their business opportunities.  Adam provides top tier advice and representation and achieves excellent results while remaining incredibly efficient.”

Ruta Prasauskas, Vice President of Health Services of LeadingAge Illinois, stated “He is my number one “go to guy” for legal expertise because of his knowledge, prompt response and welcoming nature.”

Outside the courtroom, Guetzow has been active in multiple trade and community organizations, including having previously served as a co-chair of the Anti-Defamation League’s young leader development program and its associate board.  Guetzow also is an active member of Hinshaw Culbertson’s professional development committee as well as a member of the firm’s interviewing committee.
