Brinks, Gilson & Lione added Gang Chen as an associate.

Chen is a patent agent registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and a physicist who holds 15 patents globally. He was previously with Alcatel-Lucent.

Vedder, Price added former assistant U.S. attorney Ryan S. Hedges as a shareholder in its government enforcement and special investigations practice group.

Hedges joins the firm after more than seven years as a federal prosecutor, where he served in the criminal division, financial crimes section, investigating and prosecuting complex financial crimes.

The Community Activism Law Alliance’s first anniversary celebration will be Oct. 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hughes, Socol, Piers, Resnick & Dym Ltd., 70 W. Madison St., Suite 4000.

The alliance seeks to have attorneys explore legal matters beyond traditional law conventions and to help disadvantaged communities.

The organization uses community-based clinics and partnerships to bring legal services to those clients not served by other organizations and to support grassroots activism. To register, e-mail cbadlani@hsplegal.com.

Honors

Figliulo & Silverman P.C. partner James R. Figliulo was presented with The Joel Flaum Award on Thursday at The Chicago Inn of Court’s first meeting of the season.

Figliulo was recognized for his legal career, service to the legal profession, the Chicago Inn of Court and community and the ideals of the inn.

The event was hosted by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP partner Tinos Diamantatos.
