Kirkland & Ellis LLP added Roger S. Lucas as a partner in the tax practice group.
Lucas focuses his practice on business formations, complex transactions, financings and executive compensation.
He was previously with Winston & Strawn LLP.
The partnership and management board of Faegre, Baker, Daniels LLP has named Tom Froehle as chair and managing partner of the firm, effective March 1. Froehle is located in the firm’s Indianapolis office.
He will succeed Andrew Humphrey, who will reach his term limit as chair and managing partner on the same date. Humphrey, who is with the Minneapolis office, has served in the post for more than five years.
Jason Qiu and Andrea Shoffstall have joined the intellectual property law firm Brinks, Gilson & Lione as associates.
Qiu focuses his practice on patent litigation and prosecution, as well as copyright and trademark issues.
Shoffstall practices patent litigation and prosecution of applications for various technology fields, including biomedical devices, computer software and mechanical inventions.
Brinks, Gilson & Lione attorneys John Pani and John C. Freeman will present a webinar as part of the firm’s continuing series, “Peeking Behind the Curtain — Explaining the Inner Workings of the U.S. Patent Office,” on Oct. 25 at noon.
The webinar will provide information on the USPTO’s docket and workflow system, including how an examiner’s docket is organized and presented to the examiner, and recommendations to use this information to prosecute patent applications.

The Rockford office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is presenting an eight-part series, Hinshaw’s Breakfast Seminar Series, focusing on specific legal issues concerning estate planning, creditor’s rights, workers’ compensation, senior housing facilities, government law, leasing, environmental law and labor and employment law.
The fourth in the series, “The Fair Housing Act and Recent Litigation Trends in Senior Living Facilities,” will focus on avoiding common pitfalls in resident handbooks and organizational policies and procedures.
The program, which will be held Tuesday, includes a half-hour of networking over breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. at Rockford’s Northern Illinois University Conference Center, 8500 E. State St., before the educational hour of each session that runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
