Veteran prosecutors assume top positions after Sussman departure

Following Thursday’s departure of Eric H. Sussman as first assistant state’s attorney, Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly M. Foxx promoted two prosecutors with high-profile and controversial cases on their resumes.Replacing Sussman is Joseph G. Magats, who served as chief of the office’s Criminal Prosecutions Bureau since February 2017. That role will be filled by his deputy, Risa Lanier.
