Employee's emotional distress claim gets judge’s go-ahead

A federal judge Wednesday cleared the way for a woman to pursue a claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress against her employer.In a written opinion, U.S. District Judge Jorge L. Alonso did not rule on the merits of Amy Phillips’ allegation that her co-workers and supervisors at Exxon Mobil Corp. directed sexist and homophobic slurs at her and subjected her to threats and physical abuse.But Alonso rejected the argument that both the Illinois Human Rights Act and the Illinois Workers’ Compensation …
