Rauner vetoes bill expanding voting rights in county jails

SPRINGFIELD — Unless the Illinois legislature removes provisions that require corrections officials to inform individuals of their voting rights as they are released from prisons and jails, Gov. Bruce Rauner will not support a bill that expands voting rights for jail inmates.House Bill 4469, vetoed by the governor Friday, would have expanded voting access and education within county jails in Illinois. It would have required county jails in the state to form an absentee-voting process for eligible voters.Cook County …
