Wisconsin jail released from $6.7M verdict

A Wisconsin county is off the hook for a $6.7 million verdict returned in favor of a jail inmate who was repeatedly raped by a guard.The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week rejected the argument that Wisconsin law requires Milwaukee County to indemnify former corrections officer Xavier Thicklen for any portion of the verdict not covered by insurance.Wisconsin Statute Section 895.46 indemnifies public employees only if they were acting within the scope of their employment when they engaged in the conduct that led to …
