An appeals court has ordered a new trial for attempted murder for a defendant because of his tattoos.The 1st District Appellate Court has ruled Leonardo Gonzalez, sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison for attempted murder, deserves another chance to prove his innocence because he wasn’t allowed to show jurors his tattoos without a prior agreement on his testimony.The panel wrote in a split opinion last week that the trial court’s action was a Fifth Amendment violation.
