Cook County commissioners this week are set to settle the claims of the “Englewood Four” — men who coerced into false confessions for a 1994 rape and murder — for nearly $24 million.The county’s $24 million settlement with Michael Saunders, Harold Richardson and Vincent Thames comes on top of a $31 million settlement reached between the city of Chicago and the same three men, along with a fourth plaintiff, Terrill Swift.
