Judge OKs settlement in 53-year-old CHA suit

A federal judge on Wednesday entered a settlement between the Chicago Housing Authority and a public-interest organization, ending a 53-year-old housing discrimination lawsuit and freeing the CHA from 50 years of federal oversight.The settlement between the CHA and Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, or BPI, requires CHA to follow its schedule in destroying and rebuilding old public housing units; develop more housing in racially diverse, low-poverty neighborhoods; bolster the voucher program that …
