Crew members on passenger trains would have the same protections as their counterparts working for the airlines under bipartisan legislation introduced this week in the U.S. Senate. The Passenger Rail Crew Protection Parity Act proposed by Democrat Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Republican John Hoeven of North Dakota would allow anyone accused of assaulting or intimidating an engineer, conductor, on-board service employee or other railroad crew member to be charged under federal law.
