Paminder S. Parmar, who argued Illinois’ estate tax law was unconstitutionally applied retroactively and cost him nearly $560,000, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to take up his case. The Illinois Supreme Court in May rejected his claims, writing they were barred by a law that generally prohibits state officers from being sued in state court.
