The Federal Election Commission declined to investigate a complaint filed by watchdog group Common Cause against Robert Ritchie, who sold merchandise hyping a U.S. Senate run under his Kid Rock persona. Common Cause argued that Ritchie was obligated to create a campaign committee and file disclosure reports, but the FEC said selling “Kid Rock for Senate” merchandise wasn’t a big enough step to show that Ritchie was running.
