With a winter storm bearing down on Chicago today, the Cook County Circuit Court, 1st District Illinois Appellate Court, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals are closed.

Cook County announcement

Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans’ spokesman released the following statement shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday:

“Due to the winter storm warning that predicts 10-14 inches of snowfall in the Chicagoland area between Thursday February 8, 2018, 6 p.m. and Friday, February 9, 2018, 9 p.m., and to ensure that no one is placed in a position of danger in getting to court, the Circuit Court of Cook County will be closed Friday, February 9, 2018.”

“This means — with the exception of Central Bond Court at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago and juvenile detention hearings at the Juvenile Center in Chicago — that there will be no court in session in any Cook County courthouse and that the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court will be closed. All cases set for Friday, February 9, 2018, will be rescheduled.”

“On Monday, court is closed in observance of the state holiday of Lincoln’s Birthday. Central Bond Court and juvenile detention hearings will be held as scheduled through the weekend and Monday.”

District Court announcement

The following post was published to the Northern District’s website this morning:

“Due to the inclement weather and dangerous traveling conditions the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern and Western Divisions will be closed on Friday February 9, 2018. Normal operations will resume on Monday, February 12, 2018. In court matters scheduled for Friday, February 9, 2018 will be rescheduled.”

7th Circuit announcement

“Please Note: The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit will be closed on Friday, February 09, 2018, due to inclement weather. The Court will resume operations on Monday.”
