Government officials’ personal text messages and emails are subject to state open records laws, an appeals court has found.The 1st District Appellate Court ruled the Illinois Freedom of Information Act requires city officials to probe their personal accounts for messages pertaining to public business.Justice Cynthia Y. Cobbs authored the 18-page decision in the case, which was brought by the Better Government Association against the mayor’s office and city health department and pertained to information …
