Judge dismisses city’s motion to reconsider $44.7M police verdict

The city of Chicago on Thursday said it plans to take a $44.7 million police-misconduct judgment to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.One day earlier, U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber’s dismissed the city’s motion to reconsider a jury verdict from October in favor of Michael LaPorta.The jury found Chicago police officer Patrick Kelly shot LaPorta, his friend, in January 2010, either “intentionally or with reckless indifference.”The city’s next option in challenging the trial …
