Nearly quarter of newest lawmakers are lawyers

SPRINGFIELD — Of the 51 newly elected members of the 101st General Assembly, 15 are lawyers — all with different backgrounds ranging from working as an assistant state’s attorneys to owning their own practice.“I’m looking forward to getting to know the new senators,” said John Patterson, spokesman for the office of the Illinois Senate President. “[There are] some really interesting people with interesting backgrounds.”The new lawmakers will begin their time in office on Jan. 9.Here is the new class of legislators who are …
