Hospitals, schools, churches can now be next to liquor establishments

SPRINGFIELD — Local officials will now have the opportunity to choose if they want to allow a business serving liquor next to a school, church, hospital or military academy.And because of the new measure signed into law by Gov. Bruce Rauner Thursday, lawmakers and business advocacy groups say economic development will be spurred throughout the state.The new law covers bars, taverns, restaurants and an establishment serving alcohol.Previously, state law required a business to go to the state legislature to obtain a …
