Panel affirms conviction for man who killed ex-girlfriend

Calling claims he didn’t understand his Miranda rights “feigned,” a 2nd District Appellate Court panel last week upheld the conviction of a man who shot his ex-girlfriend and entombed her body in a room in his home.In July 2016, McHenry County jurors found William J. Ross guilty of the first-degree murder of Jacqueline Schaefer. After killing her at some unknown point in 2011, he put her body in a room in his home just outside McHenry.
