Kathy Malamis leads government affairs and public policy for the Trustmark Companies. As vice president and associate general counsel, Kathy advises the Board of Directors, C-Suite, and senior leaders on a wide range of legal, business, legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues affecting the company, as well as the insurance and healthcare industries, generally. Kathy joined Trustmark in 2014, to head litigation, and assumed roles of increasing responsibility thereafter.

Kathy serves as a member of the Board of Directors of both the Illinois Life & Health Insurance Council and the Association of California Life and Health Insurance Companies. She also is a member of the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law, the Association of Professional Insurance Women, and the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Kathy is a dedicated volunteer who gives generously of her time and expertise to make a difference in the lives of others. She established and chairs a pro bono initiative for Trustmark’s Legal Department that, in partnership with other organizations, provides free legal services to victims of domestic violence, and to individuals in need of criminal records relief assistance. Kathy is also a frequent volunteer for Chicago Legal Aid’s Woodlawn pro bono clinic.

Prior to joining Trustmark, Kathy was a partner at the national law firm Tressler LLP, where she concentrated her practice on insurance coverage counseling and litigation, and reinsurance. Highly active in diversity and inclusion initiatives, she served as a long-standing member of the firm’s Diversity Steering Committee and co-chaired the firm’s women’s initiative.

A leader in the non-profit community, Kathy served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law; as an Associate Board Member for the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s (IICF) Midwest Division; and as a volunteer instructor for the Constitutional Rights Foundation Lawyers in the Classroom program. She served on the Steering Committee for the IICF’s Women in Insurance Conference at both the regional and global levels. She was also an active member of the Sedona Conference.

Kathy is a recognized leader in the legal community. She was honored with a First Chair Award in 2019, and was among the 2013 Law Bulletin Media’s 40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty To Watch. Thomsen Reuters and Chicago Magazine identified Kathy as one of the Top Women Attorneys in Illinois, and Illinois Super Lawyers Magazine named her to its Rising Stars list each year from 2008-14. The Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners also honored her with the Corporate Women of Achievement Award in 2012. Kathy frequently speaks on topics impacting the legal and insurance industries.

She earned a B.A. degree in philosophy from Loyola University, her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, and an executive education certificate in finance from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business Management.
