Illinois Supreme Court OKs hospital property tax exemption

The state’s top court has rejected a constitutional challenge to a law allowing property tax exemptions for hospitals.The Illinois Supreme Court Thursday ruled a provision, which says hospitals “shall” get exemptions if the value of their charity work exceeds that of their property, does not conflict with language in the Illinois Constitution that says exemptions are only provided if the property is used “exclusively” for charity.Justice P.
