Labor & Employment

What sets Scott apart from his peers? There is his legal knowledge, of course. Cruz is a considered one of the lawyers people look to in Labor & Employment Law. There is also his willingness to work long hours and the skills he displays in the courtroom.

But Cruz’s peers say what truly makes Cruz such a rising star in his area of practice is the commitment he shows to his clients.

"As one of Scott’s clients, I can personally attest to his desire and passion to do the best possible work on behalf of his clients." said Colleen O’Keefe Chief Legal Counsel at District 300. “He also makes me feel as if I’m his only client when we work on matters together, something I truly appreciate and look for in outside counsel relationships.

The legal profession has taken notice of Cruz’s abilities in Labor and Employment law. The American institute of Legal Counsel named Cruz one the best Labor and Employment Lawyers in Illinois.

Marc Siegel, a Chicago attorney with Siegel & Dolan, who represents employees in Labor disputes has opposed in Cruz in multiple cases, has this to say about Cruz,. “Scott is unique in his approach, he advocates very hard on behalf of his clients, but can show empathy to employee’s position.” Siegel continued, “Scott has the ability to see things and to see matters from all sides of the coin.”

Another nominator who is a sitting Judge in DuPage County, opposed Cruz while in private practice. The judge said that Cruz achieves such top results because he works so hard at his craft. “In my case against him Scott demonstrated that he is a hardworking and diligent attorney who knows how to prepare a case to achieve maximum results. Even while vigorously representing his client, he did so in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the character, courtesy and professionalism which attorneys should practice.” The Judge continued, “That’s what distinguishes Scott from his peers.”

Joe Siprut, with Chicago's Siprut PC, has known Cruz for many years, “Scott is one of the first people I call when I need to talk through a legal issue that I am working on. Scott has provided me with different legal strategies and ideas that I had not thought about.

Another nominator who worked with Cruz, stated that while working together Cruz routinely exhibited exceptional lawyering skills “he became the firm’s “go to “ lawyer for non-employment civil litigation matters in an area in which he had no prior experience, but quickly developed and mastered the skill set needed to successfully handle these claims.”

Outside of his duties in the courtroom and office, Cruz is a member of Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and is also on the board of Directors of Alivio Medical Center, a not for profit whose mission is to increase Hispanic access to comprehensive affordable quality health care. If that is not enough, Scott is a mentor at the 1871 incubator where he provides counsel and guidance to 1871’s members on all aspects of employment law. Additionally, Scott is a member of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Chicago Latino Network.
