Angela Elbert
NEAL GERBER EISENBERG
CHAIR, INSURANCE POLICYHOLDER PRACTICE GROUP

Angela Elbert is chair of the Neal Gerber Eisenberg Insurance Policyholder practice group. A partner in the firm’s litigation group, she counsels clients on complex risk management and insurance issues and helps them obtain the maximum recovery possible when claims arise. With over two decades of experience, Angela has been instrumental in recovering hundreds of millions of dollars of insurance for her clients through negotiation, mediation and, where necessary, litigation. Her nationwide risk management practice spans a broad range of capabilities, including negotiating insurance with the best terms available, providing strategic assistance on the insurance aspects of complex corporate transactions, resolving financial insolvency concerns and evaluating, preparing and enforcing indemnification agreements.

With considerable experience managing insurance coverage and commercial litigation disputes before state and federal courts and arbitration panels, Angela focuses her national litigation practice primarily on prosecuting policyholder claims for a wide array of insurance lines.

Her clients hold numerous, complex insurance policies, and typically need guidance to orchestrate the coverage those policies provide. After thoroughly reviewing clients’ insurance portfolios, Angela assists clients to establish necessary coverage levels and eliminate gaps that could leave their businesses exposed.

She is an inspirational lawyer beloved by her clients. In June 2020, Angela was selected for the American College of Coverage Counsel’s (ACCC) Thomas F. Segalla Service Award in recognition of her dedication and service to the ACCC. The award recognizes recipients that demonstrate creativity, visibility and persistence to their practice, volunteerism and leadership in the practice of law. In 2018, the BTI Consulting Group recognized Angela as a Client Service All-Star recognizing her superior client focus, legal skills and value-added service. The award is based solely on feedback compiled from interviews with top in-house counsel. Angela is also currently recognized in Chambers USA “Insurance: Dispute Resolution”; The Best Lawyers in America “Insurance Law”; and Top 50 Women Illinois Super Lawyers.

In addition to her robust practice, she is a member of NGE’s Women’s Network Leadership Team, Marketing Committee, and Associate Review Committee, and actively participates in the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. She is a frequent speaker on insurance topics and is a former chair of the Insurance Committee of the ABA’s Section of Litigation. Angela leads and drives programs for the advancement of young women and the enrichment of other female lawyers. She formally served on the National Board of Directors for Step Up, helping teenage girls in schools in major cities ready themselves for college, work, and life. She also formerly served as a board member and treasurer of the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law.
