1865 President Abraham Lincoln died from the gunshot injuries inflicted by John Wilkes Booth the evening before. 1967 Richard Speck was found guilty of the mass murder of eight student nurses at South Chicago Community Hospital. He was sentenced to death, but that sentence was later overturned due to issues with jury selection at his trial. Speck died of a heart attack after 25 years in prison. He was implicated in at least seven prior murders but was never charged.
