$45M verdict for child beating death

A Cook County jury awarded $45 million Tuesday to the family of a 2-year-old boy who authorities say was beaten to death by his mother in 2011.The Lavandis Hudson estate, which included his biological father Herbert Hudson, filed a lawsuit in 2012 against Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, alleging the nonprofit should not have given the boy’s mother, Marles Blackman, custody of the child once he was taken away almost immediately after he was born.Also included in the lawsuit were Therapeutic Intervention for Kids …
